Shaped by the Coast, Canyons, and Light of Los Angeles

Discover California

Alessio Veyra is a Los Angeles-based abstract artist creating textured, atmospheric works inspired by the movement and contrast of Southern California. His paintings are shaped by the spaces between the city, the coast, and the mountains — early mornings near the water, quiet hikes through dry hills, shadowed canyon roads, and the warm light that settles across Los Angeles at the end of the day.

Living in Los Angeles provides a constant mix of influence. The city is fast, layered, and architectural, but it is also surrounded by natural stillness. The ocean, the hills, the desert tones, and the changing light all become part of the work. Veyra’s paintings often reflect this contrast: structure against movement, darkness against warmth, rough texture against quiet open space.

His creative process is physical and intuitive. Each piece begins with simple forms and a limited color palette, then develops through layers of paint, scraping, covering, and reworking. The finished paintings often include dark color fields, muted earth tones, rough edges, and imperfect shapes. Rather than creating literal landscapes or portraits, Veyra builds abstract compositions that suggest mood, memory, and atmosphere.

Surfing and hiking play an important role in the way he sees color and movement. The rhythm of the ocean, the weight of the cliffs, the silence of the trails, and the shadows found in natural spaces all influence the feeling of the work. These experiences appear in the paintings not as direct images, but as texture, balance, and restraint.

Veyra’s work is designed for interiors that value presence over decoration. Each painting is created to hold attention quietly — to bring depth, mood, and character into a room without overwhelming it. The result is artwork that feels grounded, modern, and collected, with a distinctly Southern California sense of shadow, warmth, and understated luxury.
